LaVilla Theatre Department Academics
OUR
MISSION: To provide high quality training in all aspects of
the theatrical experience. These programs are offered to enhance your
student’s development as a performer, technician, and audience member.
THREE GROUPS MUST ACT TOGETHER FOR THE SUCCESS OF OUR PROGRAM:
STUDENTS, PARENTS AND FACULTY.
OUR
OBJECTIVE: The LaVilla drama program is designed to provide
the Middle School Actor, Designer, and Technician with opportunities to
foster proficiency and develop skills in all aspects of the drama
experience. Emphasis is placed on developing skills necessary to create
characters on stage, and those technical skills necessary to showcase
the characters and the performances. Actor training is geared to
developing skills in the use of the voice, the body, and the imagination
to create characters. The Technicians and Designers create and operate
all of the elements that make the performances real: sets, costumes,
lights, make-up, and sound. Part of the training for all theatre
performers is seeing professional artists at work. This is done at
LaVilla through field trips to different theatres and by bringing in
guest artists and touring performances.
THE
STUDENT’S ROLE:
-
Be responsible for what he or she learns. Parents and teachers guide
the work, but the student must be motivated to learn the skills
necessary to succeed.
-
Be prepared to provide their best efforts in all their work,
on-stage, in the classroom, and at home, and always to respect the
work of others. You are a member of a team and in order for the team
to function successfully each team member must be sensitive,
prepared and available to meet the needs of the other members.
-
Acting is very much a craft. It requires the student to learn and be
proficient in a certain number of skills. In order to master these
skills students must be willing to take risks, try anything and
practice, consistently, regularly and correctly.
-
Allow themselves to be creative and imaginative in their work.
Students must use their imagination and creativity and remain
focused on their objectives. Creativity can be a joy as the student
strives to achieve goals.
THE
PARENT’S ROLE:
-
Parent’s are vitally important to LASOTA, the theatre department,
and to the success of their students.
-
Be involved with the children’s growth as performing artists.
-
Support the Drama Booster organization, by attendance at meetings
and support of fund raising, performance, work and education
opportunities.
THE
TEACHER’S ROLE:
-
Guide the student in an appreciation of the theatrical experience,
creation of the role, the performance, the world of the stage or
screen.
-
Instill in the drama students, both acting and technical, the joy of
the creative experience that is theatre and video.
-
Provides the tools of the craft of theatre, and guides the student
in their use.
We, the faculty and Drama
Boosters of LASOTA would love to have you working with us as we provide
young actors with their chance to develop their skills in this wonderful
facility.
