LaVilla Theatre Performance Groups
The LaVilla Theatre Department offers several
performance opportunities:
The first opportunity to perform and grow is in the
classroom. Our classes are designed to get students up and in front of the
class as soon as possible. There are so many skills to be developed, so many
growth opportunities that there will be few times when your student actor does
not have some drama related activity they need to be working on at home and in
class which will develop there skills and maturity as an actor. The primary
source of development is in the classroom.
There are limited opportunities to work outside the
classroom. We encourage your student to take advantage of these, while
remembering that his or her primary work is in the classroom. Auditioning for
the outside of class opportunities is a competitive activity, not every student
will have the opportunity to appear on Main Stage or with one of the Touring
groups, this in no way lessens your students ability to grow, develop and mature
as an actor.
Any student in good standing with the department and
the LaVilla academic departments is eligible to audition as indicated:
The Fall 2007 musical was the Fabulous Fable Factory.
Performances were at LaVilla Theatre on November 7, 8, and 9 at 7:30PM.
November 10 at 2:30PM.
A Letter from the Director
To the Cast
and Crew of the "Fabulous Fable Factory",
When a
director begins a show he owns the show, he knows the plot, the characters and
where he wants it to go. The director hopes that as rehearsals progress that
ownership will transfer to the cast. It will become their show, they will own
the story, the characters and the relationship with the audience.
Unfortunately, that does not always happen.
With
Fabulous Fable Factory it has been a slow process, each of you has been
somewhat timid in taking control of your part of this magical world. Last night
that changed. The Cast, Crew and Musicians took full ownership of the world of
the Fabulous Fable Factory.
It was a
joy and honor to watch the performance last night, to see the characters come
fully to life with all their uniquenesses and beauty. Congratulations.
Please
share the new world that you own with the audiences Friday and Saturday.
I am
immensely proud of all of you.
Congratulations.

One Act Play is our competition performance. The play
may only be one act long, and must be performed (Stage Set, Perform, and
Strike) in 40 minutes. The cast and crew will be judged on their
performance, ensemble, and technical abilities and professionalism.
The cast must learn to move the set and function as a
“touring troupe”. Last year (our first year back in competition) we won
Superior ratings in Performance and Technical. We were one of only two
schools to achieve these ratings at the State Level. This year the One Act
Play is “Chamber Music” by Arthur Kopit. The cast and crew competed at
the North Florida District Thespian Festival
on December 1, 2007 and received a "Superior" rating. They will be competing
at the State Thespian Festival on February 15, 16 and 17, 2008 which
is being held at the
American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida.
